Ed & Fern Scholarship Fund Highlight - Makenzi Rinehart

My college experience was not what most people picture when they think of a college student. While of course, I wanted to move away to a four-year university anywhere warmer than Maryland, my bank account had other plans.

I started my education at a two-year community college in Bel Air Maryland working towards my associates degree. I had a job along with taking classes, but even with working, I knew after Harford Community I would not be able to afford the education for my bachelor’s degree. I knew an associate degree would not get me far career wise, but I loved studying psychology and continued to do so. In my last semester at HCC, I was offered an amazing scholarship from the Hamels.

With this scholarship, I continued my education at Towson University working towards my bachelor’s degree. I graduated May 27th, 2022, in the pouring rain with a huge smile on my face. I am now working as the administrator for Chesapeake Beverage, and I could not be happier. If it was not for the scholarship offered to me by the Hamel's, I have no idea what my life would look like. I am forever grateful for the opportunity I was given to further my education and better my future. I would not be where I am today without the great generosity of the Hamel’s.
