News | Published: October 21, 2020

Sheamus Frasher is the stepson of the superintendent, Nicholas Navarrete. Sheamus has always enjoyed cooking. For as long as he can remember, even when he was a little kid, he loved to help cook dinner. When he wasn’t in the kitchen, he served as Senior Patrol Leader in Boy Scouts for 3 years, leading the boys through trips, summer camps, and meetings. He completed his Boy Scout career as a Star Scout, which is the third-highest rank. He was also a cook at Bon Secour while he was in high school.

Sheamus is a first-year student at Anne Arundel Community College (AACC), enrolled in the Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism Institute, and pursuing an Associate degree in Hotel/Restaurant Management, with a concentration in Culinary Arts. He is learning everything from foundational cooking techniques to baking secrets to an overview of world cuisine. In this program, Sheamus will acquire practical skills in operations management and purchasing and cost control. He will participate in professional competitions, service-learning opportunities, and internships to help him master the skills needed to succeed.

He may even spend a fall in Scotland! The semester abroad program is designed to build skills through cultural and academic immersion at a culinary arts exchange student at the City of Glasgow College.

His education takes place in a 10,000-square-foot state-of-the-art training facility at the Glen Burnie Town Center, which includes two commercial kitchens professionally equipped for savory and baking pastry programs four smart classrooms. AACC also has an extensive facility in the Humanities Building on the Arnold campus, including a baking/pastry lab, multipurpose commercial lab, and wine and demonstration room.

Accredited by the American Culinary Federation and ranked 14 of the 50 Best Culinary Schools in the US, this Associate of Applied Science degree is intended to provide students with skills to enter the workforce. Sheamus will be prepared for positions as a baker, cook, chef, pastry cook, or hospitality supervisor/manager.
