Golden Rule Apartments Renovation Completed
Hamel Builders has successfully completed the renovation work of Golden Rule Apartments, an affordable housing project on 901 New Jersey Ave., NW. Construction on the project began back in July 2006 and wrapped up in late December 2007, ahead of schedule and below budget.
The 1.88 acre site sits in the popular
Mount Vernon Square section of Washington. It is a
183-unit high-rise apartment
building with 1,200 square feet of commercial space. The rehabilitation
process included extensive interior and exterior renovations to the existing
building, common areas, and grounds. Apartment improvements include new
cabinets, counters and appliances in the kitchens; new lighting, plumbing
fixtures, fittings and accessories in the bathrooms; and new paint, flooring
and individual HVAC systems in each unit. The building renovation also
included all new plumbing risers and stacks; new fire line and fire alarm;
new roof and masonry repairs. Twenty nine of the apartments were converted
to meet the requirements for tenants with special needs, in compliance
with ADA. There was no displacement of residents throughout the renovation
process.
